In-Cosmetics Asia returns with highest satisfaction scores in 13-year history

In-Cosmetics Asia made its triumphant return to Bangkok from November 1-3 – its first physical event in Thailand in three years.

More than 10,000 cosmetic and personal care professionals (unique visitors) joined the 416 exhibitors for the opportunity to learn, network and discover the most recently launched ingredients.

With attendees from across APAC including Thailand, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan and Singapore, all eyes were on the show while several exhibitors announced the launch of new ingredients.

Clariant has launched Galactinol Advanced, a biomimetic active inspired by resurrection plants and obtained by biocatalysis. At the same time, Expanscience unveiled its Calybiota Bio, a COSMOS-certified natural ingredient recommended for intimate care and hygiene.

Ichimaru Pharcos also introduced two new anti-aging skincare actives: Adeplump, a perfect fat activator, and HappiCloy, a skincare active formulated to improve skin elasticity and sagging.

Highlighting the revival of color cosmetics, Neelikon unveiled 17 new pearlescent pigments ideal for personal care and color applications. Allozymes also revealed Phytoene, the biomolecule responsible for the yellow, red and orange colors of plants and vegetables, ideal for use as an anti-UV and anti-oxidation cosmetic ingredient.

Dow has launched seven new high-performance and sustainable technologies, including its EcoSense GL-60 HL surfactant and EcoSense GL-60 HA surfactant. The two bio-surfactants of natural origin (> 99% of biological origin), with emulsifying properties, allow the creation of highly sought-after gentle cleansing products. At the same time, Merck launched two new cosmetic active ingredients: RonaCare JouvaMer and RonaCare ReviMer for natural skin renewal, aging well and skin vitality.

A new look at cosmetic trends

Over 50 new ingredient suppliers that will power the next wave of cosmetic innovation have joined In-Cosmetics Asia for the first time. Among them, Elixens France presented its leading range of essential oils, hydrosols, floral waters, dried plants and other extracts, while Gustav Heess presented a range of specialty vegetable oils and Helioscreen explained its unique sunscreen solutions. in vitro. During the event, Uute Scientific Oy also highlighted its scientifically proven inactivated microbe extract from natural herbal, soil and herbal compost mixtures, while Taiyo Corporation showcased its wide range of flavors, fragrances, antimicrobial materials, air fresheners and fermented products.

Speakers who also joined the event for the first time demonstrated how brands can embrace innovation and reinvention to succeed. Speaking at the Marketing Trends Theatre, Marcella Vanessa, CMO of Azarine Cosmetic, revealed how the company transformed its bricks-and-mortar online marketing strategy to achieve unprecedented success. As one of the most anticipated skincare brands in Indonesia, Azarine is recognized for its innovation and collaboration with Korean actor/celebrity Lee MinHo, Disney Marvel and most recently BT21.

Other highlights from this year’s Marketing Trends program included Julia Illera, Principal Consultant at Euromonitor International, who spoke about bouncing back in a volatile market environment. Industry sessions also shed light on global makeup trends by Natallia Bambiza, makeup category analyst for The NPD Group, while Julius Lim, CEO and co-founder of B&B Labs, focused on smart skincare. the skin.

Protecting the future of personal care trends

The growing importance of sustainability was on the agenda of this year’s technical seminars and formulation lab. Technical seminars saw vendors such as CLR, Givaudan, LipoTrue, RAHN AG, Sappi Biochemtech BV, Spec-Chem Industry and others offer a deep dive into their latest ingredients and personal care formulation techniques.

Meanwhile, the formulation lab hosted R&D and lab technicians from cosmetic manufacturers and contract manufacturers, private labels and independent brands to participate in hands-on sessions. With green formulation techniques dominating the conversation, representatives from Ashland at Clariant, Gattefossé Asia Pacific, Hallstar Beauty, IFF-Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, NIKKO Chemicals and PDO, Primient Covation LLC, as well as In -Cosmetics Asia, Oliver Hofmann, of Shieling Laboratories, discussed the formulation of natural skin care, using effective and clean vitamin derivatives, the benefits of waterless formulations, vegan emulsifiers and more.

Industry firsts on display

With 75 new ingredients on display, the Innovation Zone was the starting point for three out of four visitors (75%) for in-cosmetics Asia. With exposed ingredients launched in the last eight months, it represents the epicenter of innovation.

Helping to celebrate cutting-edge ingredients, exhibitors participating in the zone were recognized in this year’s awards. Announced on the second day of the event, Mibelle BioChemistry won the Innovation Zone Gold Award: Active Ingredient Award for its aromatic resin NovoRetin – an ideal alternative to plant-derived retinol. The Silver Award was given to Vytrus Biotech while two Bronze Awards were given to BASF and Cellicon Lab.

In the Innovation Zone: Functional Ingredients Award, Ashland celebrated gold for its novel, nature-derived Antaron Soy Glyceride. Meanwhile, double wins in the Silver and Bronze categories saw Global Bioenergies, Sharon Laboratories and then Hallstar Beauty and IMCD-exclusive Jan Dekker all recognized.

The winners of the 2022 Spotlight On Formulation Awards joined in the celebrations. This year’s Spotlight On themes covered healthy skin and makeup, with all formulated ingredients falling into these trending areas. With over 30 entries reviewed by a panel of expert judges, DKSH won the gold title for its Baby One More Time face wash powder, while Innovacos won silver followed by Evonik with the title of bronze.
